REMINDER

Acadia Association A.R.'s

Well school started and we should all be back in the swing of things. This is a reminder to all A.R.'s:
  •  Remember it is time to turn in all membership enrollment forms, and membership rosters.  Let's get this done as soon as possible. If you have any questions contact Mrs. Mona Prudhomme, treasurer or myself Ms. Donna M. Wilridge, president.
Enjoy the rest of the week!

Teacher Contracts

Executive Director of Personnel and Acadia Association Members Meet

On Friday, August 10, 2012 Acadia Parish Executive Director of Personnel, Mrs. Ellan Kay Baggett met with  Acadia Association of Educators officers and  Marcus Thomas, UniServ Director. The Acadia Parish Association of Educators is the local affiliation of the Louisiana Association of Educators.
Louisiana Association of Educators is proactive on teacher contracts. New legislation passed Act 1 that states compensation, salary, number of days and number of hours will not be definite unless specified in a contract. Today we proposed our contract language to Acadia Parish Executive Director of Personnel Ellan K. Baggett who was very helpful in our early stages of agreeing on a future final product.

Join LAE NOW!!

Getting the Jump on New Enrollments

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!
We all have so much to do in so little time before school starts. Some of the following may be racing through the minds of teachers:
  • My classroom is done. At least I thought so.  I have 28 students and 23 desks. Where am I suppose to put 5 more desks?
  • Did I remember to post my classroom expectations and consequences where they are visible to all?
  • Am I ready for the new Core Curriculum?
  • Act 1, Act 2, Bulletin 130 what are they talking about ?
  • What in the world does "At Will Teacher" mean?
  • I thought I would be tenured after teaching this school year?
  • When can I enroll in that very active Teachers' Union?
Well, today Acadia Association of Educators helped eased the minds of the new teachers in Acadia Parish. The Acadia Association members: Mona Prudhomme, Donna Wilridge, Cordelia Pizzalotto, Leana Miller and Uniserve Director, Marcus Thomas met with the new teachers during their back to school Technology Workshop and were successful recruiting new members.

SORRY WE DID NOT HAVE ANY IDEAS WHERE TO PUT THE FIVE EXTRA DESKS!! :)

AAE President Donald Richard, Vice President Linda Abshire, Treasurer Mona Prudhomme, Secretary Donna Wilridge, along with members Bertha Stevens, Sheryl Alexander, Cordelia Pizzalotto, Leanna Miller traveled to Marksville, LA to gather with education leaders from across the state at LAE's annual Summer Leadership Conference. This year, Cordelia Pizzalotto represented the Acadia Association as an Emerging Leader.
ALL WORK and NO PLAY!! All the workshops were very informative especially the Advocacy Training workshops that explained how ACT 1 & ACT 2 will change educators working conditions in the schools. All AAE members were engaged in various trainings throughout the entire week and are anxious to share information with the association members.

AAE members Cordelia Pizzalotto, Mona Prudhomme, and Donna Wilridge take a minute to smile for LAE's cameras at Summer Leadership 2012.
